Mind Between the Lines became Denis' directing debut feature film. It was written and shot by Denis in the period of two and a half years, and included 20 shooting days in the multiple locations and cities. 

The story unfolds in an unnamed Western European country of the 19th century. An old count, Walter Gold, tells his grandson a story of his life. Over 60 years ago, while on a horse walk, Young Walter meets a creature that would change his life forever since. Since then, Walter's life turned into a struggle for the freedom of his mind.

The central dramatic conflict of the film evolves between the book author and his fictional character, Walter.
